The Life of Mere St. Joseph, (Paperback)

"The Life of Mere St. Joseph" offers an intimate and detailed account of Françoise Blin de Bourdon, the aristocratic co-foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Written by a member of her own institute, this biography traces her journey from a privileged French upbringing through the perils of the French Revolution to her pivotal role in establishing a lasting religious legacy.

The work explores her deep spiritual devotion, her partnership with Saint Julie Billiart, and her steadfast leadership during the formative years of the congregation. Readers will find a compelling narrative of faith, resilience, and the challenges of maintaining a religious mission amidst significant social upheaval. This volume serves as a significant historical and hagiographical record, documenting the virtues and administrative wisdom of a woman who dedicated her life and fortune to the education of the poor and the growth of her religious community.

Focusing on the internal growth of the Sisters of Notre Dame, the text provides insight into the spiritual foundations and the practical hurdles faced by religious women in the nineteenth century. It is an essential resource for those interested in Catholic history, the evolution of religious orders, and the spiritual lives of significant ecclesiastical figures.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
